Damien Dabrowski is a conversation designer, voice user interface designer, and writer. His story Tacos was selected by the CBC and VĂ©hicule Press for the collection Telling Stories: New English Stories from Quebec, and he’s been shortlisted for Anvil Press’s 3 Day Novel Contest. He’s recently completed his first novel.
As a conversation designer, Damien’s designed for Fortune 500 companies, Alexa and Google Assistant, and maybe also your car, or your home appliance. He spent over ten years at Nuance, where he worked as both a Senior Speech Scientist and a Senior Voice User Interface Designer.
Joining the Alexa team shortly after the launch of the Echo, at Amazon he shipped many V1 products and features in every domain, including first and third party voice experiences for Alexa Skills Kit and Alexa Voice Service. Damien also supported Google Assistant teams on Automotive and Smart Home initiatives.
In 2019, Damien created the first Voice Interaction Design course at the University of Washington’s Human Centered Design Engineering graduate program. He’s also co-taught Introduction to Human Centered Design and advised Capstone students, as well as giving occasional guest lectures on conversation design in other classes.
Most recently, Damien’s joined Women In Voice as an advisor, and is supporting enterprise clients through his consultancy Dee VUI. He’s currently querying agents for his first novel, and when he’s not shaping a sourdough loaf, or running around Green Lake, he’s exploring the Pacific Northwest’s gravel roads with Team Recycled Cycles.
